The great thing about music is that you can find a lot of logic and method in it and analyze and dissect it endlessly, and at the same time you can simply absorb it and enjoy it without thinking, in a purely emotional manner. This is an amazing thing.

Interview

Israeli Rapper Khen Rotem

By Azad Karimi

The nature of research and cultural articles is that it forces the author to do more research and work. It also helps the writer see the road ahead better and move on with more confidence. This, will make the article richer and more reasoned and the reader will read it with more pleasure and confidence, and it will also have a cultural impact. For example, I had to do research because of Rapping. Please read what Wikipedia has written about rap at this link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapping

Dear Khen, my dear friend is a valuable human ... In addition to rap, he also specializes in blues. These styles of music are originally American, meaning they originated from the depths of American culture and are now recognized around the world.

Khen says about his first album that is actually one of the first rap albums ever released in Israel, came out more than 20 years ago, in the spring of 2000... Interestingly, he is in fact the pioneer of Rapping in Israel.

Congratulations for daring to take the initiative to introduce another style of music to the community in which you live.

Another interesting point is that in the Middle East we are told that Israeli society is a closed and dogmatic society and does not have the ability to spread a culture of tolerance among the Israeli people but if you read the words of Khen, you will realize the dreams and aspirations of a part of the cultural stratum of this society. I do not like to politicize the issue, but just pay attention to the two critics of Israel and pay attention to the news about them. See the situation of cultural tolerance in their countries ... Leaders of Iran and Turkey: Ali Khamenei and Recep Tayyip Erdogan and more amazing, today the United Nations and Human Rights Watch condemned Iran and Turkey, respectively, for all kinds of discrimination and injustice in these countries.

It is interesting that the Palestinians have repeatedly asked these countries not to interfere in their affairs ...

I do not judge ... but I analyze what I see and hear ... If you like, act like me, and if you do not like, in addition to reading the text of our interview, pay attention to Khen's work.

I wish my dear friend Khen success and progress in his work, art, and personal life.

Thank you!

1-Please present yourself: (Name, education, Civil status and...)

.My birth name is Khen Rotem. My stage name is Sagol 59 ("Sagol" means "Purple" in Hebrew).

2-What is your artistic specialize?

.I am a musician: a rapper, and guitarist and also have a folk/blues band. I also teach music and give lectures and masterclasses. I have released 7 albums so far and perform a lot, in Israel and across the world, mainly in the US.

3-When and how did you become interested in this field of art?

.I've loved music for as far as I can remember myself. I am self-taught – never studied music formally.

4-Who was your motivator?

.I think it comes from within. I was exposed to many different styles of music growing up, and learned to appreciate every genre for its own uniqueness.

5- What was your parent’s reaction?

.I can't say i came from a "musical" family, but they never held me back from doing music, and i think they're kinda proud when I'm in the media.

6- When started you such as professional musician?

.My first album, actually one of the first rap albums ever released in Israel, came out more than 20 years ago, in the spring of 2000

7- Are you thankful and happy because of your activities as musician?

.Sure! Music has taken me to places and moments I never dreamed were possible.

8- What is music culture? What is music logic?

.The great thing about music is that you can find a lot of logic and method in it and analyze and dissect it endlessly, and at the same time you can simply absorb it and enjoy it without thinking, in a purely emotional manner. This is an amazing thing.

9- Why do some songs become immortal?

.I don't think anybody has the answer to that.

10- How you see the Music, art and culture in your perspective? I mean your prediction for the future of music!

. Personally, I try to create at the moment and do what I feel is right at any given time, not planning too much or trying to please anyone but myself. The fact that some people may like it is a huge bonus and a pleasure, but not the main motivation.

11- Can you become one part of the cultural movement for motivation in youth or new generation in your country and so than?

. I try to give back to the community as much as I can, do volunteering work in the field of music, work with disenfranchised youth, kids, etc. And collaborate with people from different backgrounds to mine, such as Palestinian and Muslim musicians. Crating a musical dialogue that transcends race, religion, and skin color is an incredible thing.

12- How can you help our world become a better place to live?

.Try to be human. Not judge too quickly. Never be too focused just in myself. Make people happy and feel a common bond between all of us.

13- Have you more word to say or suggest for our readers?

.Try to do good. Or at least refrain from doing harm.
