Motivating young people is crucial. They must be guided to the discovery of a unique cultural and social heritage in the world. If I can help young people I always do it with pleasure and with a lot of enthusiasm.

Interview

Italian Opera Set Designer Lorenzo Giossi

By Azad Karimi

Lorenzo's parents are artists. Lorenzo says they encouraged him to join art and music and discover himself in that field.

Congratulations to him, because his parents are worthy and educated people and they recognized their son's talent and helped him to be on the right path and grow to become an artist.

I wish talented people in various cultural, industrial, and managerial fields could grow and prosper in their favorite fields. I hope these people, like Lorenzo, have educated and understanding parents to encourage their children to join their favorite job.

I would like to invite you, dear reader, to pay attention to the text of the interview and read it. I think there is some interesting content in it that can be instructive for young people interested in opera.

I wish success and happiness to my dear friend Lorenzo.

Thank you!

                                       ....................................................................

1- Please present yourself (Name, education, Civil status and...)

. My name is Lorenzo Giossi. I live in Bologna and I attended the art institute (painting) and the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna (scenography) I am single... for now.

2-What is your artistic specialize?

. I am a director and opera set designer.

3- When and how did you become interested in this field of art?

. When I was a kid, I always traveled with my dad. My father is an opera singer. I've seen a lot of tours and shows. I saw the back-stage and the passion was inevitable. I decided I was going to live in a theater.

4- Who was your motivator?

.First of all my family and the life I was living. Then I was called by a director (Paolo Panizza) as an assistant. It all started from there. Later I was assistant director to Federico Bertolani. I thank them both.

5- What was your parent’s reaction?

.Both my parents are artists. They accepted my choice after showing me the good and bad.

6- When started you such as a professional Artist, set designer, stage director, actor and Theatre Director?

.I started at the age of 13 at the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi as a figure. Then I founded an amateur theatre company where I acted and wrote lyrics. It followed the "Gavetta" in Italian. I started from the most humble work. At the age of 23, my first important work as a director was at the Teatro Sociale in Bergamo with Donizetti's opera  L'Elisir d'Amore.

7- Are you thankful and happy because of your activities as a Theatre Director?

. I'm very grateful. I lived and I live unforgettable human and artistic experiences.

8- How you see the view: About art, culture, Theatre directing, set designing, stage directing and acting?

.I see this complex world as a great expression of community. Theatre direction, scenography, opera are unique expressions in the world because they involve many people, many artisans. These people need to be involved in order to give the right human energy to the representation. Opera summarizes all the arts in itself. Human cohesion conveys even greater emotions to the audience that can be changed going out of the room. The highest form of human expression.

9- Can you become one part of the cultural movement for motivation in youth or new generation in your country and so than?

.Motivating young people is crucial. They must be guided to the discovery of a unique cultural and social heritage in the world. If I can help young people I always do it with pleasure and with a lot of enthusiasm. Knowledge must be motivated. Perhaps everyone will not like the work, but it will be known by everyone and therefore appreciated.

10- How can you help our world become a better place to live?

.There can be so many ways depending on everyone's profession. I personally think that new initiatives, new incentives, and new research reasons must be created. This research leads us to understand that the world in which we live is closely linked to the parallel world of theater and art. Today we are attending big changes in the earth due to climate change. The climate changes as the theater. Environment and Culture have the same fate, if they are ignored they die. I think that today we are facing a necessary turning point: to reconsider our entire productive world that is so wasteful. Personally, I am the architect of a newborn project: ECOTEATRO that wants to create a theater in dialogue with society and the environment. In theater, everything is transformed like the scraps of industries. We can recover a dialogue with the surrounding world. We can all get better if everyone does his part. It takes little to make a beautiful theater, of quality, eco-sustainable, and in harmony with everyone.

11- Have you more word to say or suggest for our readers?

. What I would like to add is: go to the theatre. Be curious. You will discover that it is a world made by many professions, built on years and years of study. A world without art and theatre is a poor world. In the theater, we are human beings who try to transmit emotions to other human beings. Find out.
