Interview

Swedish-Serbian Painter Jasna Damnjanovic

By Azad Karimi

A few days ago, the Qelam website, which publishes our interviews, had an interview with me by Kurdish language and Qelam website argument was that the international interview project should be introduced to the people of Kurdistan.

I gave a detailed explanation about this and said, among other things:

During the few months that I have been following this issue, I have made many friends in the world, outstanding and genius friends, each of whom is a school of knowledge, culture and art.

I told the people of Kurdistan that sometimes I was astonished by the greatness of some of these people and tears came down from my eyes out of joy and astonishment.

And Jasna is one of them. She is my friend.Dear friend.

Dear Jasna! I’m so happy because of your existence in this period of time.

You are a blessing. God bless you and your family.

I wish dear Jasna a long life with happiness and lucky.

Thank you!

1- Please present yourself (Name, education, Civil status and...)

.My name is Jasna Damnjanovic, I born in Serbian and now I live in Stockholm (Sweden) In 2010 I graduated in Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade (Serbia), department of painting. I'm married and I have son Ernesto (3 years old) so my home is one huge playground, every day!

2-what is your artistic specialize?

.In my diploma is written-painter, but I not paint only, I use different materials to Express my ideas, sometimes this is drowning, painting, photography, installation...

3- When and how did you become interested in this field of art?

.Ever since I can remember, I express myself in visual way. You know, parents remember children's first step or words, in my case they save my first lines when I was only 8 months old, so first I was start to draw and then to walk and talk. And till then I never stop to create, this is very natural condition to me, like eating, drinking...I create constantly in my head.

4- Who was your motivator?

.Everyone.I love human creation and strong energy so I learn constantly. Amazing people are all around us in different fields is not necessary to be in art. So I'm pleased when I listen for example Chavela Vargas, watch some podcast of Garyvee, watch some works of Francesco Clemente or Tinto Brass movies or...or...ah, so much beauty.

5- What was your parent’s reaction?

.My parents are pure L.O.V.E. they are very supportive, I can't say that we always agree, but this is not too much important if we respect each other and have compassion, everything is easier. We are very open and we talk a lot!

6- When you started as a professional artist?

.I had many exhibitions in my country and abroad and I painted two big murals in Serbia. Street art is something what I'm passionate about, so in the future I have plants to connect myself with people-festivals all around the world and paint more murals.

7- Are you thankful and happy because of your activities as an artist?

.Art is my love. I enjoy when I create, I have strong necessity to do this. I can't imagine my life without it.

8- How do you see the view?

.It's great to be able to share this "my world" with others. I learning a lot, every day, I meet myself over and over again and people helps me in that ( nobody grows alone) Public reactions are different I get a lot of positive and negative comments, but I learn to walk with both together. I’m very grateful when someone like my work but I'm not disturbed when I see opposite comments( in any case I just keep walking in my direction)

9- Can you become one part of the artistic movement for motivation in youth or new generations in your country and so on?

.Yes! I have a lot of energy, experience and will and I'm ready to share this with everyone.

10- How can you help our world become a better place to live?

‘I have big goals and dreams but Im lover of this sentence,, Step by step" And this steps can be small, very small but it is important to we move constantly. And patient is the key also ( I m the queen of patient ) I m open and I support differences, ready to accept changes and like them(everything change).

I can bring some strong energy and ideas and show through my work that is absolutely fine be sensitive, kind, make mistakes, be silly, brilliant, make wrong decisions...just to be human, not perfect but beautiful.

11- Have you more words to say or a suggestion for our readers?

.I can say to them this I practice also

Gratitude (this is too much powerful tool)

To avoid comparisons with others (ah, that awareness brought me liberation and pleasure)

To not be hard to themselves

To be in good relationship with lost

And rejection (who not know to lose- can win)

Patient!!!
