Interview

Serbian Telecommunication engineer Marko Radojicic

By Azad Karimi

Look at Marko, an active, diligent, and thoughtful guy. Perhaps his concerns are the concerns of many people around the world. The controversial concepts in his mind are the phenomena of the modern age. Such as globalism, blogging, extra-governmental activities such as NGO.

Freedom of speech is other Marko's mental concern… Is this also a phenomenon of recent centuries?

I think this word is closely related to the word republic because republic means the free will of the people to govern society ... the spirit of this republic is closely related to the rites of democracy.

...Much has been written about these concepts, and I prefer not to write more and I like to invite you to read the text of our interview, and then for the concepts and keywords in this text, you can refer to different sources.

So I wish you and my dear friend Marko success and happiness.

Thank you!

1-Please present yourself (Name, education, job, Civil status and...)

.Marko Radojicic. 38 years old. Telecommunication engineer working for ICRC, Belgrade office, Serbia. Also, cultural blogging (Belgrade Edt Culture blog), a seriously taken hobby. Promoting cultural varieties. Happily single status.

2-What is your cultural specialize?

. Culture in general (Serbian and worldwide), focuses on (contemporary) theatre, film, and literature.

3-When and how did you become interested in this field of culture?

. Culture has always been an important part of me. Even decided to graduate engineering, I always have had interest in cultural events (like festivals, exhibitions, reading books, watching films, …). Once started active writing (on the blog) and becoming a member of NUNS (National Serbian press organization) I have focused on this field. Culture makes me feel full in every single way…almost every free time I have I dedicate: traveling = holiday = affected/indicated by cultural events. Mostly filled in meeting my favorite artists (writers, actors, theatre and film directors, musicians, …) and other bloggers/journalists.

4-Who was your motivator?

. Maybe one of the main reasons why dedicated me to culture promoting and writing was that I couldn’t find any portal or webpage where I could find, at one place, all contents that my or my close friends were interested in. In that way, it was motivation enough to became more dedicated to writing and creating my own blog.

5-When started you such as a professional Blogger-Journalist?

. 2013. was a turning point. It all started as an idea to promote Belgradian theatre repertoire. Once a month I published all theatre premiers, once a week (artistic, less commercial) theatre recommendations. Social media like Facebook and Instagram were crucial to populate this beautiful art. So once started writing, I become a blogger. Journalist at the begging was too strong a word for me. It took years to develop style of writing and create a style that was suitable for me. At the begging following with short reviews, followed by press material, later focused on more critical writings.

6-Are you thankful and happy because of your activities as an engineer that working as ICT technical support for ICRC?

. Sure! Working for ICRC makes me very proud. Having the opportunity to work for the International Committee of Red Cross, a humanitarian organization was an important milestone in my professional work. Being a part of a great supportive team, in contact with people all around the globe every day, providing technical assistance, is almost a unique experience.  I believe that helping others and participate in it is one of the most beautiful work calls that I could choose. Just thought that I have the opportunity to develop myself and my skills here, might be reason enough never to give up learning.

7-Marko! You are a blogger and member of Serbian press association, so you are a journalist. Please tell us:

I - Why blogand what does it have to do with journalism?

. The blog is a short and suitable form, representing a fast way of living nowadays. Social media are crucial, having real-time shared information, followed by a shorter text with video/foto, without any time limitations. Also being a self-editor gives you more freedom/independence in critical review and thematic. You don’t have to be professional to be a blogger. Freedom of speech is a very important segment of society, mainly from people without formal education. Those are all benefits of being a blogger. They have a form of journalism, but more personal, more subjective and more customized to the readers.

II- What is the relationship between journalism and the production of a progressive culture in a society?

. The sociall engaged artistic view is very important for me. Furthermore, maybe the most affected to my writings. Cultural forms that follow a critical way of thinking, artistic visual/written expressions are helping in building the modern and better society that we all want to live in. Promoting freedom, thinking, less commercial values, and education. Not to be mediocrities. Progressive culture needs to follow progressive modern society. Otherwise, we won’t develop ourselves.

8-How you see the view, the future of Blogging, journalism, culture and technology? You are a writer-reporter; you should have an opinion...

. There will be always radio, television and newspapers. But internet and web portals and social networks are the future. Development and availability of new (media) technologies based on the Internet we all need to follow, sooner or later, so better sooner. Globalism is our reality, but we need to keep our national and local identity. Blog will always be the form to create our personality, creativity and writing as a hobby. Journalism need to keep high standards and stay as possible more independent. Real information in real time, more referring to correct information.

9-Can you become one part of the cultural movement for motivation in youth or new generation in your country and so than? How can you help our world become a better place for living?

. My writing is my contribution/motivation to all readers that every opinion is important. No matter being an engineer, or a doctor, or a scientist, or a lawyer, or a salesman, or a farmer. Culture is important for all of us, it ennobles, it relaxes, it educates and it makes us think about important topics for us. So yes, in that way it gathers and motivates youth to be better and expects all best for them. In that way, it helps our world to become a better place for living.

10-Have you more word to say or suggestion for our readers?

. Be yourself. Enjoy life in every single moment. Express yourself in every desired way. Have your own opinion, share it with others. Read more, educate yourself. Respect others, appreciate diversity. Make your micro-society environment better (friends and families), so the world (society) can be worth place to live.
